Recommended Uses
Premier’s stamped concrete colors are ideal for use in highly visible areas such as driveways, patios, stamped concrete, concrete pavers, masonry mortars, architectural concrete blocks, athletic courts, swimming pool decks, walkways, cart paths, street curbing, parking areas, freeway sound barriers, landscaping tilt-up building walls, cast-in-place concrete, and decorative concrete flatwork. A job site sample using the same materials and methods that will be used for the final project is recommended.
Application
Premier’s Integral Colors are pre-measured to be used in the ratio of one bag of color per one standard yard of concrete in a six-sack type I-II Portland cement mix design. The mix design added to the mixer should be calculated to not exceed a 4-inch slump for best color results. Simply toss the water-soluble repulpable beater bag into the mixer. Premier Integral Colors can be added at the ready-mix plant or the last ingredient at the job site. Before adding color, make sure the drum is clean and has no washout water left in the mixer. Aggregates should be clean and dampened before adding color. In a customary manner load water, aggregate, and cement to your mixer. Mixer should not be overloaded and be loaded to a minimum of 40% capacity for maximum color dispersion. Mix at a high speed for a minimum of 10 minutes or 100 revolutions before pouring.
Finishing Recommendations
Once placing has begun, do not add water to the mixing drum as it will affect the color and finish. Avoid using wet tools or sprinkle any water onto the surface of the colored concrete. Maintain consistent finishing techniques and avoid hard and over troweling for the most uniform color results. Never use plastic sheeting to cure colored concrete as this creates uneven colors. A broom, swirled, rough or textured finish usually results in a more uniform color appearance than smooth surfaces. Finishing techniques, consistent batching, and consistent pouring techniques should be applied for a uniformed color result.
Limitations
Color added over 10% of the total cementitious material will not provide additional benefits and can significantly reduce the overall strength of the finished product. Coloring 2% to 7% of your cementitious material is suggested. Below 2% may cause irregular and inconsistent coloring. Discoloration may also be caused using fly ash and calcium chloride, therefore, it should not be used or added to your mix. Additional admixtures can/should be added at the batch plant in the type and amount specified by the mix designer, using the same dosage for each load. DO NOT USE CALCIUM CHLORIDE.
Storage
Store by following local regulations. Store in original package protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials and food and drinks. Ideal storage temperatures range from 40 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep bags tightly closed and sealed until ready for use. Bags that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabeled containers. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination. Empty containers or liners may retain some product residues. KEEP PACKAGE CLOSED AND OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
